Oh man am I in trouble! I knew JD's thought process was much more like his daddy's than mine, but it has become more and more apparent in the past few days. Here are a couple of our recent conversations:
JD: "Mommy, where is Jesus?"
Me: "He lives in your heart!'
JD: "But you told me that Jop (my sweet grandmother) went to live with Jesus?"
Me: "Well, um, she did. Jesus is also in heaven."
JD: "Where's heaven?" (with a VERY confused look on his face!)
Me: "Um, just think of it as in the sky."
JD: "But the sky is where the rain comes from?"
Me: "Yes it is, but heaven is up there too."
JD: "Am I going to live with Jesus?"
Me: "If you love Jesus, then one day you will. And, mommy and daddy will live there too one day."
JD: "Mommy, I love Jesus, but I don't want to see him."
Me: (trying not to laugh) "Well, I understand thinking that."
JD: "Who IS Jesus?"
Me: "Well, Jesus is God's son."
JD: "I thought Joseph was Jesus' dad?"
Me: "JD, all you need to remember right now is that Jesus made you, He loves you very much, and He wants to be your friend."
Whew! I was really proud of him for the questions he was asking, but man, he challenged me! If he's asking me this stuff at 3, it's only going to get worse the older he gets! I am going to have to get advice from Robert's mom on how she answered the millions of questions I know he asked her as a child!
And, 2 much more lighthearted Christmas conversations:
JD: "Mommy, can I look in the sleigh?
Me: "What sleigh?"
JD: "Our car sleigh!"
Me: "Why?"
JD: "To see if the tractor and tools I asked Santa for are in here"
Me: "Our car is not a sleigh and the only thing you'll find in here are old cheerios and french fries. If Santa is bringing you a tractor or tools, they'll be in his sleigh and we can't see Santa's sleigh"
JD: "Hmm....I still think I'd better look and see!"
Oh great...we are going to have "that kid" who is going to be the one who tells his fellow kindergartners that Santa is a hoax. And, for the record, we haven't bought any of his gifts in front of him, so I really am curious as to what made him think to ask me that!
Finally:
We were in a store a couple nights ago and we were looking at tractors. Robert pointed one out to JD that only had a "digger" in the back. Here's how the convo went:
Robert: "JD, do you want a tractor like that?"
JD: "Yes! Let's buy it!"
Robert: "No, is that the kind you asked Santa for?"
JD: "No, Santa's bringing me one with a back digger AND a front digger. You can go ahead and buy me this one tonight!"
We are really going to have to be on our toes to keep up with him!
