Terri, Terri Quite Contrary, How Does Your Garden Grow?

First,  I couldn't resist this title, but I have to admit, our new garden is not just mine... it has been most definitely a full Pease family effort to get this thing growing!!  I'm sure those of you who know our families, know that both of our parents have very green thumbs!  My mom and dad have an incredible vegetable garden and their flower beds are beautiful.  Robert's parents also have beautiful flowers throughout their yard and patio.  Robert and I, however, always felt like we did not inherit the green thumb genes, but we decided to give a garden a try!

We went with a "square foot garden" for our first gardening adventure.  It is a neat concept where you basically build a gardening box that is broken up into square feet.  You plant a different plant in each square.  It is a great way to plant a lot of different veggies and herbs in a small space.  We planted corn, zucchini, squash, carrots, potatoes, watermelon, black beans, green beans, spinach, onions, oregano, and basil.  The corn, spinach, zucchini, spinach, and beans have taken off and look great!  The basil, carrots, squash, and potatoes have been slow to start, but we are really starting to see some growth.  The oregano, watermelon, and onions have been no shows!  But, I figure we have done well for our first try and hopefully each crop gets better and better.

So, after 38 days, the garden is really growing well !  I'm hoping to start harvesting in the next few weeks!  Here are some pictures from the different stages of growth.  Enjoy!

Day 1

Day 21--the black beans and corn are really growing!

Day 28-- the black beans and corn look great!  You can see the spinach in the top left corner

Day 35-  The black beans are about to outgrow their square!  You can see tiny carrot sprouts to the right of the beans and the corn is a couple of feet high now!

that's really awesome and I'm very impressed. my favorite part is not the title, but the fact that you said you're about to start "harvesting." cracked me up...you're such a farmer now, terri! i bet your veggies taste super being right from your backyard. That's really cool!
